The hot intra-cluster medium (ICM) permeating galaxy clusters and groups is not pristine, as it is continuously enriched by metals synthesised in Type Ia (SNIa) and core-collapse (SNcc) supernovae since the major epoch of star formation (z ~ 2-3).
