The ATLAS reference system is a Cartesian right-handed coordinate system, with the nominal collision point at the origin. The anticlockwise beam direction defines the positive z z -axis, while the positive x x -axis is defined as pointing from the collision point to the center of the LHC ring and the positive y y -axis points upwards. Transverse quantities, such as p T p_{\mathrm{T}} and E T E_{\mathrm{T}} , are defined in the ( x x , y y ) plane. The azimuthal angle ϕ \phi is measured around the beam axis, and the polar angle θ \theta is measured with respect to the z z -axis. The rapidity is given by y = 1 2 l n E + p z E − p z y=\frac{1}{2}ln\frac{E+p_{z}}{E-p_{z}} and pseudorapidity is defined as η = − ln ( tan ( θ / 2 ) ) \eta=-\ln(\tan(\theta/2))
