The ATLAS reference system is a Cartesian right-handed coordinate system, with the nominal collision point at the origin. The anti-clockwise beam direction defines the positive z z -axis, while the positive x x -axis is defined as pointing from the collision point to the centre of the LHC ring and the positive y y -axis points upwards. The azimuthal angle ϕ \phi is measured around the beam axis, and the polar angle θ \theta is measured with respect to the z z -axis. The pseudorapidity is defined as η = − ln ( tan ( θ / 2 ) ) \eta=-{\rm ln}({\rm tan}(\theta/2)) . The rapidity is defined as y = 0.5 × ln [ ( E + p z ) / ( E − p z ) ] y=0.5\times{\rm ln}[(E+p_{z})/(E-p_{z})] , where E E denotes the energy and p z p_{z} is the component of the momentum along the beam direction
