This article reports a measurement of the production cross section of prompt isolated photon pairs in proton-antiproton collisions at \sqrt{s} = 1.96 TeV using the CDF II detector at the Fermilab Tevatron collider.

The CDF II detector uses a cylindrical coordinate system in which ϕ \phi is the azimuthal angle, θ \theta is the polar angle with respect to the proton beam, r r is the radius from the nominal beam line, and z z points in the proton beam direction, with the origin at the center of the detector. The transverse r r - ϕ \phi , or x x - y y plane, is the plane perpendicular to the z z axis. The pseudorapidity, η \eta , is defined as − ln ( tan ( θ / 2 ) ) -\ln(\tan(\theta/2)) . For the photons, which have zero mass, this is identical to the rapidity y y = tanh − 1 ( p z / E ) \tanh^{-1}(p_{\rm z}/E) , where p z p_{\rm z} = p ⋅ cos θ p\cdot\cos\theta is the momentum parallel to the beam PDG . The transverse energy of a particle is E T E_{\rm T} = E ⋅ sin θ E\cdot\sin\theta . The transverse momentum of a particle is defined as p T p_{\rm T} = p ⋅ sin θ p\cdot\sin\theta
