The D0 detector utilizes a right-handed coordinate system with the z z axis pointing in the direction of the proton beam and the y y axis pointing upwards. The azimuthal angle ϕ \phi is defined in the x x - y y plane measured from the x x axis. The pseudorapidity is defined as η = − ln [ tan ( θ / 2 ) ] \eta=-\textup{ln}[\textup{tan}(\theta/2)] , where θ = arctan ( x 2 + y 2 / z ) \theta=\textup{arctan}(\sqrt{x^{2}+y^{2}}/z) . Transverse variables are defined as projections of the variables onto the x x - y y plane
