Because conical segments of quasispherical ultrarelativistic blastwaves are causally disconnected on angular scales larger than the blastwave inverse Lorentz factor, astrophysical blastwaves can sustain initial anisotropy, imprinted by the process that drives the explosion, while they remain relativistic.
