• However, existing biomedical generalist AI solutions are typically heavyweight and closed source to researchers, practitioners, and patients.
• Here, we propose BiomedGPT, the first open-source and lightweight vision-language foundation model, designed as a generalist capable of performing various biomedical tasks.
