Motivated by the possibility to use Bose-Einstein condensates as quantum simulators for spacetime curvature, we study a massless relativistic scalar quantum field in spatially curved Friedmann-Lema\^itre-Robertson-Walker universes with $d=2+1$ spacetime dimensions.
