When q = 0 q=0 , the outer paths are in a symmetric or anti-symmetric superposition of the 7 th 7^{\rm th} and 8 th 8^{\rm th} bands. In this case, an 8th order Bragg resonance condition is met for the outer paths. However, Ω R \Omega_{R} and Ω D \Omega_{D} are very small for this N B = 8 N_{B}=8 process making any population transfer or diffraction phase contributions negligible. Even at the largest values shown of 10 radians at 34 recoils in Fig.5(b), the population transfer for N B = 8 N_{B}=8 is < 10 − 4 <10^{-4} and the diffraction phase from outer paths < 0.1 <0.1\, rad
