Motivated by an anomaly in $R(D^{(*)})={\rm BR}(\bar{B}\rightarrow D^{(*)} \tau^-\bar{\nu})/{\rm BR}(\bar{B}\rightarrow D^{(*)} l^-\bar{\nu})$ reported by BaBar, Belle and LHCb, we study $R(D^{(*)})$ in a general two Higgs doublet model (2HDM).
