The Dirac fermion here should be understood as a domain wall fermion lying at the center of the entire bulk, rather than the boundary of half spacetime. The “anomaly cancellation,” in a sense, happens implicitly while integrating bulk fermion degrees of freedom. See Ref. \rev@citealpnum
