In this paper, we study phase diagrams of the extended Bose-Hubbard model (EBHM) in one dimension by means of the quantum Monte-Carlo (QMC) simulation using the stochastic-series expansion (SSE).In the EBHM, there exists a nearest-neighbor repulsion as well as the on-site repulsion.

By the Holstein-Primakoff transformation with spin S S , the bosonic operator is related to spin operators as S i + = 2 S − b i † b i b i S^{+}_{i}=\sqrt{2S-b^{\dagger}_{i}b_{i}}b_{i} , S i − = b i † 2 S − b i † b i S^{-}_{i}=b^{\dagger}_{i}\sqrt{2S-b^{\dagger}_{i}b_{i}} , and S i z = S − b i † b i S^{z}_{i}=S-b^{\dagger}_{i}b_{i} . Without taking the large- S S limit, the EBHM does not correspond to a simple Heisenberg model because the higher-oder terms of b i b_{i} and b i † b^{\dagger}_{i} appearing from the 1 / S 1/S -expansion of S i + S^{+}_{i} and S i − S^{-}_{i} lead to complicated interaction terms of bosons, which do not correspond to the on-site nor nearest-neighbor interaction terms of the EBHM
