Semileptonic $b \to c$ transitions, and in particular the ratios $R(D^{(*)}) = \frac{\Gamma(B \rightarrow D^{(*)} \tau \nu )}{\Gamma(B \rightarrow D^{(*)} \ell \nu )}$, can be used to test the universality of the weak interactions.
