For simplicity we consider here QIFT’s with only one type of particle and with a unique ground state. The generalization to theories with many types of particles is straightforward, less trivial is the extension to theories with many vacua, a case that will be considered somewhere else

To appreciate the pedagogical value of this example, notice that the main differences between a free and an interacting QIFT is only at the technical level: while the free theory is solved by the Fourier Transform, an interacting QIFT needs the Inverse Scattering Transform, alias the Bethe Ansatz techniques
