ATLAS uses a cylindrical coordinate system about the beam axis with polar angle θ \theta and azimuthal angle ϕ \phi . Anti-clockwise beam direction defines the positive z z -axis, while the positive x x -axis is defined as pointing from the collision point to the center of the LHC ring and the positive y y -axis points upwards.
