Understand
Bolometers are phonon mediated detectors used in particle physics experiments to search for rare processes, such as neutrinoless double beta decay and dark matter interactions.
- They feature an excellent energy resolution, which is a few keV over an energy range extending from a few keV up to several MeV.
- Nevertheless the resolution can be limited by the noise induced by vibrations of the mechanical apparatus.
- In arrays of bolometers part of this noise is correlated among different detectors and can be removed using a multichannel decorrelation algorithm.
