CDF uses a cylindrical coordinate system in which ϕ \phi is the azimuthal angle, r r is the radius from the nominal beam line, and z z points in the proton beam direction. The transverse ( r − ϕ r-\phi ) plane is perpendicular to the z z axis. Transverse momentum and energy are the respective projections of momentum measured in the tracking system and energy measured in the calorimeter system onto the r − ϕ r-\phi plane, and are defined as p T p_{\mathrm{T}} = p sin θ p\sin\theta and E T E_{\mathrm{T}} = E sin θ E\sin\theta . Here, θ \theta is the polar angle measured with respect to the interaction vertex. Missing transverse energy ( OPEN ) i s d e f i n e d b y )isdefinedby = − Σ i E T i n i → -\Sigma_{i}E_{\mathrm{T}}^{i}\overrightarrow{n_{i}} , where i i is the calorimeter tower and n → i \overrightarrow{n}_{i} is a unit vector perpendicular to the beam axis and pointing at the i i th tower. The pseudorapidity η \eta is defined as -ln(tan( θ / 2 \theta/2 )), where θ \theta is measured with respect to the origin of the detector. We define the magnitude / \not E T E_{\mathrm{T}} = | | — . 7 [7] CDF F . A b e e t a l . , N u c l . I n s t r u m . M e t h o d s P h y s . R e s . A 271,387 ( 1988 ) ; D .
