Solutions with degenerate metric ($det(g_{\mu\nu})=0$ or $g_{\mu\nu}=0$) in the first order formalism (FOF) are physically acceptable: they may describe topology changes (Horowitz) and reduction of "metrical dimension" (Tseytlin) of space-time.
