In the present case with only adjoint representations, it is more convenient to impose a weaker constraint max i ( α i ) − min i ( α i ) < 2 π \max_{i}(\alpha_{i})-\min_{i}(\alpha_{i})<2\pi , which respects the center U(1) symmetry α i ↦ α i + const . \alpha_{i}\mapsto\alpha_{i}+{\rm const.}
